Beads. Surprise at tourist speaking Spanish. Rent a bike. No allen wrench to adjust seat. You hold the bike, I’ll twist and pull the seat. Tarahumara indians. Sewing. Picking. Selling. Begging. Simple. Aspiring? Not like Western thought aspires. Content? I’m not, not in the way they are. Mother braiding daughter’s hair. Boy runs up. “Que pasa?” Runs away giggling. Beautiful landscape. Vast. Eroded rock formations. Fields. Boys playing baseball. Valley of the Monks. Panoramic canyon view. Small school. Train mural. Many divergent forest trails. Peaceful lakeside. Sweet apple. Thankful. 8 km to town. Caves along road. Boys sitting. “Hola” Boy mimics smoking joint. “Smoke?” “Nooo…” “Come here.” Friendly. Shows me weed. Low quality. “It’s good!” On to town. Dutch man asks about my day. Wants to borrow my bike. Okay. Thanks, I’ll get you a beer later. Back to hostel. Japanese girl, Yoku. Banana. Loves fruit here. Too expensive in Japan. Noise in street.
